Green Forest Senior Timeline…...CLASS of 2021

SUMMER 2020

Volunteer!!!! Find something you are passionate about and spend some time giving back to the community. Not only is this good for you, it is good for the organization and the people you help. Colleges and scholarship donors want to invest in someone who is willing to give of their time.

Visit Colleges and Universities that interest you. Also that careful note of their scholarship deadlines, admission requirements, and other information you will need when applying.

GET ORGANIZED…..Senior year can be stressful but it is also supposed to be fun! You can take some of the stress away by getting a binder or creating a spreadsheet to keep a list of college deadlines, scholarship deadlines, and other important information you will need next year.

   FALL Checklist-August through December 2020

  1. Take advantage of all resources available to you. Information about college and career choices, financial aid, and scholarships can be found in the counselor’s office and online. Scholarships can be found on the Counselor’s page. Here are a couple of other options for finding scholarships
    • Fastweb.com
    • Scholarships.com

  • Apply for the scholarships you have researched; be sure to include all relevant information by the stated deadlines.

  • Check with your school counselor to make sure that you continue to meet high school graduation and college admission requirements.

  • Organize and record relevant dates on a calendar so you can plan your year more efficiently.

  • Make copies of your admissions and financial aid forms, practice filling them out before completing the final one.

  • Meet with visiting representatives from the schools or colleges that interest you.

Dates and times for visits by college representatives will be in the announcements and signup sheets are in the counselor’s office.

  • Take the ACT. Register online at actstudent.org. Remember juniors and seniors qualify for a total of 2 fee waivers. Be sure to use yours! Check with the college where you’re applying and see what the latest test date is that they will accept.

  • Identify individuals who would write a good recommendation for you. Give each recommender at least two weeks notice and written background information to assist them. (Ex. Clubs, Sports, Band, Volunteer Service, Work, Awards, etc)

  • Arrange visits with schools you are considering and schedule admissions interviews if required. You have two college days available. Please turn in all paperwork a week prior to the visit.

  • Apply for financial aid by completing and submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after October 1st using your parents 2019 tax information. The FAFSA is available from your school counselor or online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • Submit your college admissions applications; WATCH OUT FOR DEADLINES

SPRING Checklist – January through May 2021

  • Apply for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship (Lottery) at scholarships.adhe.edu. We will do this in class together.

  • Call the college of your choice and confirm that they have received your admissions applications materials, including letters of recommendation and housing applications.

  • Keep an eye on the scholarship page on our website. It will be continually updated.

  • Request that your counselor send a copy of your transcript to the school to which you have applied. Make sure your 1st semester senior year grades are included on the transcript.

  • The information you receive back, after the FAFSA is processed, is the Student Aid Report (SAR). If any portion of the information on the SAR is incorrect, please correct it and resubmit it to the processing center.

  • Submit any additional financial aid forms and documentation that is required by the college of your choice.

  • Notify the colleges in writing as to whether you are accepting or declining admission by the proper deadline.
